I chose "THE JUNEI HOTEL Kyoto Imperial Palace West" because I wanted to stay in a small inn like a townhouse rather than a big hotel. There are so many long-established ryokan in Kyoto, so I was at a loss, but this inn had its charms. I checked the transportation and found that it was a 15-minute walk from the nearest station, but I decided that I could walk on the next day because the Kyoto Imperial Palace nearby.
What is the appearance of the hotel? Check the entrance and reception
The inn is located right after Horikawa Dori, and the surrounding area is a residential area, so I felt like I was visiting a friend’s house.
The exterior looks like a quiet townhouse, with an old-fashioned taste, but the building itself felt new.
Entrance.
The inside was like a townhouse. The front desk is on the left.
The staff was in the back and came to the front when guests arrived. On the rack next to the front desk were maps of Kyoto.

What is the Deluxe Twin Room like?
Guest room door.
There was a “Clean Up Please” magnet on the door.
The room was very big! There was a tatami room in front of the bed, and I liked the Japanese-Western style. Little decorations here and there were Japanese-style, but the atmosphere was modern.
There was relaxing music playing in the room and you can request songs that you like o play or ask them to stop the music. There were spot lights here and there making the room even more stylish.
The bed was very clean. I was able to sleep very well until morning.
The pillows were not too hard and not too soft and the height was just right. The cushion with Kyoto-style embroidery placed with the pillows were stylish.
There was TV across the bed.
There was a table and a cushion between on the tatami mats. On the table, tissues, tea confectionery and teacups were placed.
There was a spacious desk.
The rooms had two large windows, but I could not open them. It was a densely populated area, so the walls of the next building could be seen, but there were fences built for privacy.
The curtains were like Japanese shojis which matched well with the room.

Bathroom
There was a bathtub with a wash area next to it. There was a sink on the right, a toilet with a door on the left, and the bathtub in the back.
This is the hydrogen bath of Shigaraki. The way to add water into the hydrogen bath was explained in the manual. It was the first time for me to get into a hydrogen bath and my body was warm after taking a bath. I was surprised that the hot water was still warm the next morning.
There was a rain shower and a removable hand shower, and the water pressure was just right.
A stool and bucket.
Mikimoto shampoo, conditioner and body soap were provided next to the shower.
The toilet was in front of the sink, but there was a door so it was private. It had a Washlet function.
Sink.
There was hand soap.
Amenities were prepared next to the sink. Amenities included a toothbrush, cotton, cotton swab, hairbrush, hair elastic, shower cap and body towels. There was also makeup remover, face wash, lotion and emulsion for women.
Hair dryer.
Towels and bath robes were prepared under the sink.

Mini bar and cafe
Tea and coffee were prepared on the desk. Three kinds of tea; green tea, roasted green tea, and brown rice tea in a cylinder were prepared. The original teapot and teacup was cute with a modern Japanese style and could be purchased if you like.
Tea sweets were also prepared on the table.
There was only water in the fridge, but you can order wine at the front desk.

Restaurants in the hotel
There was no restaurant in the hall and breakfast was room meal. It was a Japanese bento-box. The quantity and taste was good.
There was no shop in the hotel, the teacups, teapots, pajamas, towels, etc. provided in the room could be purchased, and the price was stated in the information in the room. It seems that you can buy it if you ask the front desk. However, the price was expensive, such as 5,000 yen for a teacup and 14,000 yen for a teapot.

Hotel surroundings
Although there was a big street called Horikawa Street nearby, the area around the hotel was a quiet residential area. I think that it is a nice environment for those who want get away from the bustling city area. The bus stop is a 2-minute walk away, but it takes about 15-20 minutes on foot from Marutamachi Station, the nearest subway station. Since I arrived after dark there were not many people walking around. However, you can walk along the main street which is not dark with cars passing by.

Staff and guests
Since the hotel did not have many rooms, there was only one staff working. The same staff was doing the check-in and taking breakfast to the rooms. The staff seemed a little shy.
I did not see any of the other guest during my stay. However, when I passed near the reception at night, I heard laughter of women, so there many have been friends staying together. This hotel is good for foreigners to stay as well, because they had information written in English.

Access
The nearest station is Marutamachi Subway Station, which can be reached from Kyoto Station without transfer. Ride time from Kyoto Station is about 7 minutes and it is the fourth stop. It took about 15-20 minutes on foot from Marutamachi Station. I like walking, so I didn’t bother, but if I stay in Kyoto for a long stay, there are times when I need a taxi to return to the hotel. There are few shops, but there is a convenience store within walking distance form the hotel.
Kyoto Gyoen.

Summary
I had a nice stay at this hotel. The best part is that the room is spacious and even has a living room, so felt like I was visiting somebody’s house. There are many kinds of tea and tea confectionery, so I was able to enjoy a relaxing time. However, it would have been better if there was a sofa. The bathtub of Shigaraki was nicer than I expected. I felt that it was the best luxury to get enough hot water and take a hydrogen bath. I thought it was cool to have a large window glass in the bathroom and bamboo planted outside. This is a nice hotel to stay for women, because there are amenities that are useful to have for women.
