I decided to stay at "Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei," because I am a member of this group. I stayed at Mitsui Garden Hotel in other areas and I have even stayed at this hotel before as well. I loved the atmosphere with the Japanese designs and the calm atmosphere where you can enjoy the feel of Kyoto. In addition, access to the city is good, but it is off the main street and is very quiet. There is a map of the area on the first floor lobby, which is very helpful to look at.

The exterior is Japanese-style was both like an inn and a hotel. The shop curtain hanging at the entrance was very fancy.

The entrance had two doors, and the door leading to the lobby was a large wooden door.

The lights in the front lobby had a slightly reduced tone and had a chic atmosphere. Sofas and cushions were placed in the lobby and was Japanese style. A map of the area and a flyer for shop information were also provided, which was helpful.

What is the Moderate Double Room like?

There was an open closet, a full-length mirror, and a bathroom on the right after entering the room. The room was slightly darker with dimmed lights. The windows had shoji screens, and the hanging scroll-like decorations near the windows which was aso fashionable.

The bed was neither too hard nor too soft and was comfortabel to sleep on. The pillow was just the right hardness as well.

There was a window in the guest room, but I could not open the window or the shoji, so I could not see the outside view, but the shoji created a nice atmosphere.

Bathroom

There was a shower integrated bathtub in the bathroom. It was a very normal bathroom.

The bathtub was spacious. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap were provided beside the bathtub. The shower had a removable hand shower, and there was no problem with water pressure, and temperature control was easy.

Amenities were prepared on the sink. There was plenty of face wash, hand wash, and lotion prepared. Lotion had a nice scent.

Closet and safe

There was an open closet at the entrance. It was big, but there was plenty of space to hang clothes for one person. There were hangers prepared.

There was a cafe corner on a shelf next to the sofa. There was an electric kettle, ice bucket, glasses and cups, as well as a drip type coffee and green tea.

Restaurants and shops in the hotel

There was a restaurant called “IZAMA” on the first floor.

Breakfast was buffet style and had both Japanese and Western dishes. There were various kinds of rice; ordinary white rice, cooked rice and porridge. The yogurt was delicious, with toppings of fruit sauce, roasted soybean flour and black beans that is Kyoto style.

Facilities in the hotel

There was a large public bath exclusively for hotel guests on the first floor, but I did no use it this time. Guests can use it free of charge. The bath was modern Japanese style.

Hotel Surroundings

The area around the hotel was quiet and relaxing. There are many famous coffee shops within walking distance. The bus stop and train station was within walking distance, so it was easy to go around the city.

Staff and Guests

The staff kindly responded to questions and greeted me with a nice smile. A similar hotel opened up in front of Kyoto Station, and this hotel can arrange luggage delivery from the station hotel to this hotel even before check-in (300 yen), making it very convenient.

I saw many couples during breakfast. There were quite a few guests from overseas.

Access

The nearest station is about 10 minutes away, and it is easy to get to Kyoto Station or Arashiyama. It is within walking distance to department stores around Shijo and various shops.

Summary

I had a nice to stay at this hotel. It was very convenient to go sightseeing all over Kyoto and it is close to downtown and walking distance to the shopping areas. Even though it was in the middle of the city, it was a calm and comfortable environment. The staff were pleasant and I could stay comfortably. Famous cafes and department stores are also within walking distance, so it was nice to be able to do take out and eat lightly in the room. The brochure with a map in the lobby was easy to read and useful for when sightseeing.
