I stayed at a hotel called "Shinjuku Granbell Hotel" which is located in the deepest part of Kabukicho. During my stay there were no Japanese guests, so it felt as if I was staying at a foreign hotel. The facilities were modern and clean. There are plants planted in front of the hotel entrance, and you can enjoy nature in the big city. The hotel was close to downtown, but it was quiet in the hotel.

The hotel is a 17-story designer hotel located in Shinjuku Kabukicho, a 4-minute walk away from Higashi-Shinjuku Station on the Fukutoshin Line and Oedo Line.

All the rooms are designed by many creators from Japan and from foreign countries, and it is interesting that each room has its own characteristics! My room was small with only 19 square meters, but it was a simple design that was refreshing.

The beds are all made by Simmons Co., which is very comfortable to sleep on.

The hotel is shaped like the letter “L,” so all I could see was the wall of the hotel on my right side.

Staff and guests

The correspondence of the staff was good.

There were gusts visiting from many different countries, and I was told that not many Japanese people stay at this hotel. In the evening, there were many people sitting on the sofa and eating at the cafe.

Summary

Even though this hotel is located in Tokyo’s largest downtown area, Shinjuku, it felt as if I was staying at a hotel overseas. It was nice be able to have breakfast on an upper floor while enjoying a nice view of the city. I recommended getting off the East Shinjuku Station rather than Shinjuku Station if you have a big suitcase, because the hotel is located at the farther end of the downtown area. There is a convenience store and a batting center nearby. There are many love hotels around this hotel, so it may be awkward for some people to come to this area. I enjoyed chatting with the other guests at the bar and the cafe.
