"Sapporo Grand Hotel" is located in the center of Sapporo. The hotel is connected to Sapporo Station and Odori Station with an underground passage which is convenient for going sightseeing and for business. It is a historic and traditional hotel that opened in 1934 as Sapporo's first full-scale style hotel.

The hotel is built along the station square, consisting of three buildings: the main building, the east building, and the annex.

There was a narrow hallway with a bathroom on the left and the bedroom at the back.

The room was 40 square meters in size and was very spacious. The interior was very simple.

The bed was a king size bed which was very comfortable to sleep on.

The hotel had several restaurants in the main, east and annex buildings.

At “Northern Terrace Diner” you can choose a buffet style breakfast or a Japanese set meal. There are about 90 kinds of dishes prepared for the buffet.

There was a Memorial Library & Business Center on the first floor. There was an exhibition of the history of Hokkaido and hotels, and a large collection of books.

There is a gallery on the first floor. The exhibitions focus on works of writers and artists from Hokkaido. I was able to go in for free.

Hotel Surroundings

The hotel is located in the center of Sapporo, in a convenient location facing the street by the station. There are many shops such as convenience stores and restaurants nearby. Also sightseeing spots and downtown Susukino are within walking distance.

Staff and Guests

The staff were all courteous. Some were waiting at the lobby and will guide you to your room after checking in. The guests were all well mannered.

Access

It is a 10-minute walk from JR Sapporo Station and a 5-minute walk from Odori Subway Station. It was very convenient because the hotel is connected to the stations with an underground passage. There was an airport bus-stop for a bus that runs between New Chitose Airport and the hotel.

Summary

“Sapporo Grand Hotel” was conveniently located in the center of Sapporo with good access. The building was old because it is a historic hotel that celebrated its 85th anniversary, but it was clean and beautiful. However, I was disappointed about the fact that they charge an additional fee for those who want to check-in before the checking time. The room was also a little old, so this hotel may not be my first choice for when looking for hotels in Sapporo, but overall I had a nice stay.
