I decided to stay at the "Hotel Monterey Sapporo," because it is close to Sapporo Station and is a luxurious and beautiful hotel. In addition, my husband had stayed here once and liked it very much.

The retro English-style building stood out very much.
It was a very impressive looking hotel.
The entrance was also very retro.

The lobby was not very big. There was a fireplace in the lobby creating a nice atmosphere.
There was a gorgeous chandelier hanging form the wall.

What is the Hollywood Twin Room like?
Guest room entrance door
There was a closet on the right and a bedroom on the left.
The entrance way seen from the bedroom.
The room was retro and stylish, but the furniture seemed a little old. Compared to the beautiful design of the outside and the lobby, the room was a downgrade. However, it was cleaned very well.
As it was a Hollywood twin room, two 110 cm wide beds were put together.
The bed and pillows were fluffy and comfortable to sleep on, but there was only one pillow prepared on each bed which was a little inconvenient.

There was also a desk next to the TV with a smart phone that you can use freely during your stay.
Above the sofa was a window.
My room was a corner room, so there were two windows.

Bathroom
There was a shower integrated bathtub in the bathroom, but it was a bit small. Also, it smelled a little moldy.
The shower was a removable hand shower and the water pressure was strong enough. Maybe even a little too strong.
There was shampoo, conditioner and body soap.
The toilet had a washlet function.
There was a face & hand soap next to the sink. There were also plenty of bath towels and hand toeless prepared.
Amenities were also provided on the sink. There was a compression sponge, razor, toothbrush set, and cotton set (cotton, cotton swab). Amenities were replenished everyday.

There were five hangers, slippers, deodorant spray, bathrobes, and a shoe horn in the closet.

There was a cafe corner on the desk with an electric kettle, cups, two free bottles of water and tea bags.
There was a fridge but nothing was inside it.

There were Western and Japanese dishes served buffet style.

There were many dishes using ingredients from Hokkaido.
Food was delicious.
There was also a French restaurant called”Karantei” on the second floor.

Hotel Surroundings
Sapporo Station and convenience stores were nearby, so it was very convenient. It was nice to be able to walk to Odori Park, Clock Tower and Sapporo TV Tower. The hotel is within walking distance to all the sightseeing spots in Sapporo. It’s one meter away by taxi to get to Susukino to go out to eat. However, I thought that it was more convenient to use a subway than a taxi because there was heavy traffic around Susukino. It felt very safe around the station.

Staff and Guests
The staff were very kind and helpful. They called taxis for me and helped me to the sofa because I was pregnant. They even made an effort to check me in as soon as possible.
There were many Chinese people staying at this hotel. The hotel seemed more suitable for couples or wealthy tourists.

Access
You can get to Sapporo Station in 40 minutes from New Chitose Airport. It is a 5 minute walk from Sapporo Station to the hotel. There are many restaurants and shops around Sapporo Station which was very convenient.

Summary
The best part about staying at this hotel was how close it was to Sapporo Station. It was also nice that it was within walking distance to the clock tower and Odori Park. The hotel was lovely with an English retro style. The breakfast buffet used ingredients from Hokkaido and there were plenty of dishes to pick from. The staff were all very helpful as well. Some issues were the small bathroom and only one pillow being prepared on the bed. Also, it would have been nice if parking was free.
