I chose "The Modern Honolulu," because it is a clean but reasonable hotel. I was looking for a hotel near the beach, and it was unusual to see a modern and stylish hotel in Honolulu. The staff were also friendly towards my children which was very relieving.
What is the appearance of the hotel? Check the entrance and reception
The hotel was a 17-story building on Ala Moana Boulevard.
There was a small hotel sign at the entrance.
The entrance was very bright.
The front desk was right by the entrance. There were surfboards behind the desks which impressed me.
Lobby
Lobby floor elevator hall
Guest room floor elevator hall
The guest room floor corridor was a little dark compared to the lobby, which was a little disappointing.

What is the City View King Bed Room like?
Guest room entrance door
There was a bathroom on the right and a closet on the left.
The room was very white and clean. I would expect the room to look old after a few years, but the room still looked very new. In addition, the room was spacious, so I did not feel cramped at all.
The bed was comfortable and I was able to sleep well. There were four pillows on the bed. There were tables on both sides of the bed, with a phone, memo set, alarm, etc.
Across the bed was a TV and a desk.
Desk
A relaxing sofa by the window.
There was a veranda.
Two chairs and a table were prepared on the veranda.
I had a partial view of the ocean. There were mostly buildings around the hotel. I had a beer on the veranda while enjoying the nice breeze. I heard noise coming from outside, but it did not bother me too much.

Bathroom
The bathroom was cleaned very well. Unfortunately there was only a shower room.
The shower room was spacious. Body soap, shampoo and conditioner were prepared inside.
The shower head was fixed on the wall and the water pressure was strong enough.
Toilet
Sink
There was a bar of soap and body cream prepared on the sink. I was a little disappointed that there were no bathrobes.
Towels under the sink.
In the basket was an extra toilet paper and a hair dryer.

Half of the closet was a shelf. There were hangers, slippers, baggage rack, clothes brush, shoe horn and a laundry bag.
The safe was easy to use.

Mini bar and cafe
There was a coffee machine on the desk. The coffee tasted a little weak.
There was also a fridge, but nothing was prepared inside. I was able to store what I bought inside.

Restaurants and shops in the hotel
“The Globe Restaurant & Bar” is a lounge with comfortable chairs to sit on and outside seating. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Study is a retreat-like bar and lounge at the back of the bookshelf in the lobby. At 6:00 pm, the bookshelf opens like a revolving door. You can enjoy cocktails and snacks while listening to live music.
There is an outdoor bar called the “The Modern Players Club,” where you can enjoy drinks and snack menus while watching TV or playing board games such as Giant Jenga or Connect Four by the pool. Happy hour is from 3pm to 5pm.

Facilities in the hotel
The hotel had a very nice outdoor pool. Especially at sunset, the contrast of white umbrellas, trees and the sunset from Waikiki Beach side was very beautiful. I went to the sunset pool in the evening and it had a calm atmosphere with adults reading and swimming peacefully. It was convenient to be able to borrow towels at the pool.
There was a gym on the way to the pool. There were many equipments and it is open 24 hours a day.

Hotel Surrounding
The hotel was located in a busy area of Waikiki, but I was also able to enjoy the view of the beach and mountains in the distance. There are also trolleys and buses running here and there, so it is easy to get to both central Waikiki and Ala Moana. It felt very safe in the city as well.

Staff and Guests
The staff at the hotel were all very nice. The staff at the front desk worked very fast. There were many Western couples staying at this hotel. This seemed like a hotel more suitable for adults.

Summary
I had a nice stay at this hotel. First, the location was good. It was easy to access both the center of Waikiki and Ala Moana, and it was close to the lagoon and Kahanamoku Beach, so it was nice to be able to enjoy both the city and the beach. Next, the hotel was relatively clean and I was very comfortable inside the hotel. Finally, it is also a perfect hotel for taking photogenic pictures. I was impressed to see the sunset from the pool. This time I was traveling with children, but if you are traveling as a couple or on a honeymoon, it may be a more enjoyable hotel.
