I decided to stay at “Residence Inn by Marriott San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter,” because I wanted to stay at a hotel in a good location for being on a long business trip. I wanted a kitchen in the room, breakfast in the hotel, and convenience for going out. Once I stayed at the top floor corner room, and I remembered that it was nice and booked a room here hoping for a room upgrade. The hotel parking lot is expensive, so I had to walk a little ways to get to the free parking space. This hotel is one of the best among the Marriott chain.

Because the hotel is located in the Gaslamp Quarter, it was smaller than the other hotels, and I almost overlooked it.

The lobby was very nice with large surfboards decorated and a high ceiling.

What is the King Studio like?
Guest room entrance door.
The room was not very wide, but it had a open feeling. The room and the furnitures felt a little outdated. The ceiling was low compared to other hotels, and it had a NY-like atmosphere.
Kitchen.
There was a dining table next to the kitchen.
There was a bedroom at the back.
The mattress and the pillows were just the right hardness, and I slept very well. The sheets were set very nicely.
The bedside table by the window had a phone and a note set.
There was an alarm on the other bedside table.
There was a sofa and a table next to the window.
There was a TV next to the sofa and across the bed as well.
There were two windows in the room, but unfortunately the view was not very nice.
From the window, I could see the roof of the next building and the nearby hotels in the distance.

Bathroom
There was a sink in front of the bathroom, and in the bathroom was a toilet and a bath tub with a shower. The bathroom was a nice size.
The bathtub was large and had a none-slip floor. The curtain was clean and I saw no mold.
The shower had strong water pressure. The ventilation was working well, so the room did not get steamy.

Amenities were prepared on the sink. There were large and small hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and a cleansing sheet.

Closet and safe
There was a closet next to the bed.
There was an iron, ironing board, spare blankets and laundry bags. There was no safe.

Kitchen
There was a small kitchen.
There was a stove, microwave, electric kettle, coffee maker, dishes and glasses.
There was a dishwasher.
In addition, there was silverware, cookware, pots, and etc.
There was a large fridge. There was nothing inside.
Next to the dining table, regular and decaf coffee, tea, popcorn and salt and pepper were prepared on a shelf. Popcorn was nice to have as a snack.

Restaurants in the hotel
Guests were able to have breakfast for free and there was a breakfast room on the second floor.
Sautéed vegetables for tortilla.

There was a shop next to the reception and they sold snacks and drinks.

Facilities in the hotel
The pool was between the buildings.
There was a BBQ stove by the pool. Even though it was between buildings, it was still a bright area.
There was a Mexican style painting on the wall. Since no one was swimming in the pool, I was able to sit and relax by the pool.
There was also a fitness center in the hotel. It is open from 6 am to 11 am.
There was a laundry room on the third floor. You can wash and dry for $2.50.
There were two computers.
There was also an ATM.

Environment around the hotel
I enjoyed jogging in the morning. I also took a walk around Petco Park, looked for the Team Store and went to the convention center, so I was going around town.

The Convention Center was a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and there was the ocean behind it.

Staff and customer base
The staff were all very friendly and well mannered. They were all professionals, and hospitality was top quality.
There was a big convention, so I saw many people staying from all over the world. It may be a package hotel for travelers coming from abroad. The hotel is very reasonable if you choose an ordinary room, so I think many people stay here.

Access
Access from the airport was good. I think everyone wants to stay in this area. The area is safe, but it’s still downtown, so I saw homeless people here and there. The hotel is in a location that is convenient for both tourists and business people. I was able to easily shop at stores near the hotel, which was very convenient.

Summary
This hotel was a very nice hotel to stay at. I was satisfies with all of the accommodations and how the staff treated me. It was also nice that there was a pool and a gym. In addition, because it is located in downtown, you can get to various restaurants and bars easily. I enjoyed watching the sunset, while drinking wine that I bought at the wine shop nearby. I used my computer in the hotel often, but the internet was fast and I had no issues at all. I had such an amazing stay, I would love to stay here again.
