I decided to stay at "Courtyard by Marriott San Diego El Cajon" because it was close to my office and it looked good in photos on the website. I really wanted to stay somewhere in downtown, Little Italy or Old Town, but this hotel is a bit far from that area. Hotels that were close to Little Italy or Old Town was all fully booked because of the big convention in San Diego.

What is the Large Studio Room like?
Guest room entrance door.
At the front was the living room and the bedroom was at the back. There was a coffee counter at the border with the bedroom, and I was impressed with the simple and stylish design. The lights in the room were toned down creating a nice atmosphere.
There was a spacious sofa in the living room.
There was a desk, a chair, and a storage shelf across the sofa.
The bedroom had two queen size beds. The bed mattress was just the right hardness. The sheets were white and clean.
There was a TV opposite the bed.
A chair was in the corner of the room.
The room seen from the window.
The room had large windows, but could not be opened. The view was just of the parking lot.

Bathroom
There was a bathtub in the bathroom, and a shower was attached above it. The bathtub was spacious.
The shower was fixed on the wall, but the water pressure was strong enough, so I had no problem washing my body.
There was a light above the wash basin what was bright and the counter was just right size.
Soap was prepared on the washstand.
There was also shampoos, conditioners and body soaps. I used the body soap, but the smell of lemon was too strong.
There was a hook to hang towels.

Restaurants and shops in the hotel
There were no restaurants in the hotel, but there was a Starbucks on the first floor, and it became a bar at night, so guests were enjoying drinks there.
I did not see anyone eating there in the morning. I think everyone goes out to eat.
There were also takeout sandwiches next to the bar.
There was also a shop that sold sodas and snacks.

Environment around the hotel
In the morning, I took a walk around the hotel, but the city was a little boring. I saw a lot of homeless people. There was a homeless man walking around with a shopping cart who was harmless, but I thought it’s best not to walk outside at night.
Downtown.
A donut shop near the hotel.

Staff and customer base
The staffs were all very king and gave me a good impression. At the time of check-in, the staff asked me if I wanted a room upgrade, which was nice, but I told them to give it to someone else because I was only staying to sleep.
There were many people staying for business, but also tourists enjoying the suburbs of San Diego were staying too. I saw some baseball players from Las Vegas staying on this day as well.

Access
It’s a bit far from the main airport, so you will need to get to the hotel by car or by taxi. There were many locals and not many tourists. I saw many young families. I think it is a safe area. There was a Ross across the hotel. Within 10 minutes on foot, there was a big shopping mall across the highway from the hotel. The food court was fulfilling. I felt no inconveniences while staying at this hotel.
“Ross” that is across the hotel.
Downtown street.

Summary
The hotel was nice for just sleeping. The hotel was clean and the gym was large, and I did not mind spending time in the hotel, but I did not want to go outside, because the town was old and rusty. At noon, I checked out quickly and moved to the next town. Even though this hotel is in San Diego, it is quite far from Down Town San Diego. It is an affordable hotel, so I would stay here again if I have the chance to come to San Diego.
