I chose “Raffles Singapore,” because it was under construction and had just been reopened in August. It is one of the oldest luxury hotels in Singapore, so I was very curious to see what it was like. All the suites were attractive, so I decided to stay and have wine and spend a relaxing weekend in the hotel. This hotel is the origin of the Singapore Sling cocktail. I have never had this cocktail before, so I wanted to taste it at the place where is was created.
What is the appearance of the hotel? Check the entrance and reception
The hotel is like a British colonial building, and I felt as if I had time slipped into the colonial era. It’s more like a Western-style building than a hotel. It was beautiful when it was lit up at night.
There was a red carpet at the entrance.

There was a spacious lobby.
There was a doorman standing by the door who opened the door for me.

What is the Courtyard Suite like?
Guest room door.
The door seen from the inside was white.
The room of the courtyard suite where I stayed has a living room as soon as you get in, followed by a bedroom and a bathroom. The living room is the smallest out of all the rooms, and the bathroom was very spacious.
Bedroom.
The bed had a nice mattress and it was a very nice bed.
There were different kinds of pillows, and if you don’t like the pillows on the bed, you can ask the front desk for new ones.
There is a bedside table with a lamp, phone and a clock.
There is a TV across the bed.
Next the bed and next the bathroom door is a desk.
If you open up an opening in the desk, there is a mirror.
The bathroom seen form the bedroom.
There is a living room right by the entrance with a sofa, arm chair and a table.
There was a TV in the living room as well.
Dining table.
There was a window by the entrance. The room faces the courtyard just as it says in the name.
There is no private balcony, but the corridor in front of the room is half open, with tables and chairs lined up. The corridor extends in a straight line, looks like a very long balcony and is a comfortable space.
The courtyard has a lawn in the middle, surrounded by the beautiful building and tropical trees.

I had lunch at a restaurant called “BBR by Alain Ducasse,” produced by a renowned chef Alain Ducasse.
Inside of the restaurant.
Terrace seating.
Mediterranean dish brought in a pan.
Food was very delicious.
It was not cheap, but it was worth paying. Lunch and dinner are the same menu.
I had breakfast at the “Tiffin Room” on the first floor.
The restaurant was a beautiful colonial-style space.
You can choose one egg dish and everything else was buffet style.
Cereal and fruit.
There were many kinds of cheese and smoked salmon.
Many kinds of bread.
I chose a “Japanese Bento.”
Poached egg was delicious.
A Chinese restaurant called “Yì by Jereme Leung.”
It was a restaurant with a modern and elegant design, with a soft tone based on white.
There was an outdoor bar called “Raffles Courtyard” in the courtyard.
Surrounded by palm trees and white beautiful arches, this cozy outdoor bar offers a tropical atmosphere.
The Raffles Courtyard seen from above.
There was also the Long Bar, the birthplace of the Singapore Sling, which has become a major cocktail offered at bars around the world.
There were tourists from all over the world coming to try the original cocktail.

Surrounded by magnificent Victorian pillars that go up from the floor to the ceiling, the lobby is filled with soft natural light from the skylights, and you can enjoy snacks and drinks here.

Facilities in the hotel
The hotel had an outdoor pool, but it was not very big. Deck chairs are lined up on the poolside, and trees are planted around it.
The location of the hotel is in the center of the city, so you can see tall buildings in the distance, but the pool is quiet and I couldn’t believe that I was in the middle of the city.
There is a pool side bar that serves Singapore sling.
Tables by the pool.
All guests can order free Singapore Sling and you can take it up to your room if you like. I had mine next to the pool.
There is a gym in the hotel. It is open from 6am to 11pm.
It is fully equipped with the latest training machines such as running machines with LCD panels and exercise bikes.
There was also a spa at the Raffles Arcade.

Staff and guests
There is a butler for each room, so you can ask anything and get first-class service. Unfortunately, the hotel has just opened, so the staff many not be used to their jobs yet.
Most of the guests were elderly Westerners. The hotel is an upscale hotel, so everyone was well mannered and I was able to spend a relaxing time in the hotel.

Access
Access from the airport is good. Get off at City hall Station on the green subway line from the airport. Taxi is pretty cheap as well. If you walk a little ways, you can get to Bugis, Merlion and Bay Sands, where there are popular shops and arcades for young people. There are 3 subway lines available. The hotel is not so far from Orchard and Sentosa Island, so it is convenient for sightseeing as well.

Summary
The hotel is a little pricy, but the service was worth paying for. There are rooms facing the city, but it is not recommended because of the sound of a cars. The Courtyard Suite is recommended because it is cheaper than other rooms. Facing the beautiful courtyard, it was a quiet and relaxing space. Restaurants and bars are also expensive, but they are in the middle range among Singapore’s finest restaurants. I asked for a bottle of wine at the bar, and it was very delicious. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you have the chance to.
