I chose “DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square West,” because I had to transfer buses from Port Authority on the day of checkout, and I had a bus leaving from JFK to Port Authority, so I was looking for a hotel nearby. It was a place where many hotels gathered, but it was only one night so it was not too expensive, and I wanted a beautiful hotel. I would have preferred a more upscale hotel, most hotels were fully booked on the weekend. The nice image of the hotel and the location was the reason why I chose this hotel.

The hotel exterior.
The entrance was a small automatic door.
The lobby was crowded with guests waiting in line to check in.
There were only two staff standing at the front desk, so I had to wait in line for about 15 minutes. There was a counter selling musical tickets, but the concierge was gone by 19:00, so I couldn’t buy any tickets.

What is the Standard King Bed Room like?
Guest room door.
The room is big and the view is nice, but there was not enough space to open up my luggage.
The room is white and simple. It is a little dark even with the lights turned on.
There was a desk by the window. It would have been nice if it was a sofa or a place to put my luggage.
There was enough space for one person to stay.
The king size bed was big and fluffy. The pillow was soft and comfortable to sleep on.
There was a bedside table with an alarm clock.
The view from the room was very nice.

Bathroom
The bathroom was very bright.
There were plenty of towel prepared.
There was only a shower. Water pressure was a little week, but it was easy to adjust the temperature.
If you keep the door open the room feels a little small.
Toilet.
Sink.
As for amenities, only body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, face soap, and body soap were prepared. When I asked for a toothbrush and slippers, they did not have any and I got mouthwash instead.

Closet and safe
Closet.
The closet was big and there plenty of hangers prepared inside. There was an ironing board and iron as well.
The safe was in a drawer.

There was no fridge, but there was instant coffee, tea packs, coffee maker, paper cups and glasses.

Restaurants in the hotel
There is a restaurant on the first floor.
I had dinner, but they serve breakfast here as well.
There were not many guests having dinner here on a night of a weekday. I ordered a huge burger and french fires and it was delicious.
You can do sandwich takeouts when you are in a hurry.
There is a bar on the top floor with a view of the Empire State Building.
They only sell drinks at the bar. You can sit inside or outside.

Hotel surroundings
Times Square was a 5-minute walk away, and there were many shops and musical theaters nearby. Also, subways run everywhere, so you will have no trouble getting to places. There are many buses leaving from PortAuthority that take you to airports such as JFK, and also to other cities and states.
Because Times Square and PortAuthority is close, there were many people walking around at night. There are many rooftop bars as well as hotels. Although it is a busy city until midnight, it seemed a bit dangerous to walk alone after 11:00. There were many office buildings and cafes around as well.

Staff and guests
It took time to check-in, but each procedure was done in a very polite manner. The staff even asked me which floor I preferred to stay on. The restaurant and bar clerk were also friendly.
Most of the guests staying were Westerners. They were mostly tourists.

Access
I arrived at the PortAuthority by bus which was $19 from the airport in about an hour and a half, and then I arrived at the hotel in 2 blocks and 10 minutes without walking. There are many other hotels around, and there are many restaurants in PortAuthority because it is about 5 minutes away from restaurants and the Times Square.

Summary
I had a nice stay at this hotel. The location was good and I had no trouble finding a place to shop or eat. The size of the room is small and the price is expensive on weekdays. It was nice that the Empire State Building can be seen from the hotel.
