I decided to stay at the "Umalas Hotel & Residence," because my acquaintance lives in this neighborhood. It was a residence hotel that was within my budget with a pool and a gym, so I decided to stay here.
The building looked old at first glance.

Unlike the outside, there was a nice open-air lobby that was connected with the garden and the pool. You can order drinks at the lobby as well.
Two people can check-in at once.
There was a kitchen on the left, a table and sofa at the back and a bathroom and bedroom on the right. It was a spacious suite.

There was a TV next to the table, but it was visible from the bedroom as well.

There was a bedroom next to the room with sofas. The sheets seemed a little old, but the bed was big and comfortable to sleep in.
There was a big window with a veranda. The room was bright with sunlight shining in from the window. All rooms are basically made so that you can see the pool. It was a nice balcony with a chair prepared. Some rooms seemed to have a clothesline, but not my room. It was quiet and peaceful.

There was a bathroom with a sink at the entrance.
There was a shower room with an overhead shower, and the water pressure was a little weak. The temperature was just right for the most part, but there were times when it suddenly became hot and cold.
There was a toilet next to the shower.
There was shampoo/conditioner and shower jell, but it was a small size.
There was also a toothbrush, razor and a bar soap prepared for the number of people staying.
There was a closet in the bedroom.
There was a safe and two gowns in the closet. The inside of the closet was stained and even had dead bugs in it, so I felt a little uncomfortable storing my clothes in here.
There was a kitchen with a big fridge. However, there was noting prepared inside the fridge.
There was also a microwave oven, so you can warm up some food. There was a cafe corner on the kitchen table with an electric kettle, two coffee cups, two glasses, two tea bags and two instant coffees. Also, I was able to get two small bottles of water everyday.
There was an outdoor restaurant that was also a breakfast venue. It was outdoors, so I was able to enjoy my meal with nice breeze coming through.

The food was delicious, but there were not many choices to pick from.

There was an outdoor pool.
There was sunlight shining in from many sides.
You can borrow towels at the front desk.
There were not many shops, stalls or restaurants around the hotel, so the streets were dark and seemed dangerous to walk alone. I was never bothered with the sound of people talking, but the cat living at the hotel cried often and woke me up in the middle of the night. It is convenient because there are laundry and convenience store in the neighborhood. It is not too far from the center of Seminyak and Kerobokan.

They were selling fresh fruit.
The staff were very friendly and even remembered my name. Whenever I passed by them at on the stairs, they stoped and let me go first which was very polite of them.
There were many families, but also people staying alone. About 40% were Westerners, 40% were Indonesian, 20% were Chinese, South Korean or Japanese.
I didn’t go directly to the hotel from the airport, but I think it takes about an hour to an hour and half. There are some warungs and convenience stores in the neighborhood, but not many. It is a safe neighborhood, but the streets are dark so it is best to be careful when walking alone. It may be inconvenient if you don’t have a car, bike or taxi. Cafes and supermarkets are a little too far to get to on foot.

This time, I decided to stay at this hotel because my friend lives in the neighborhood, but I had a nice stay. However, I cannot say that it was the best place to stay. I was scared at night because the wall of the shower room was painted black and inclosed without windows. Also, it was a pity that there was only a shower room, even though I asked for a room with a bathtub. However, the open space from the entrance to the pool and the friendliness of the staff were very good, and the room itself was very good because it was made like a suite room.
